Introducing the SPYDER

Most people are familiar with the "cherry picker" trucks that arborists typically use. The limitation with this equipment is that they can only be used in areas where the truck can access, and driving the truck onto yards can potentially cause damage to the lawn.

FALL LAWN RENOVATION OFFERS A JUMP ON SPRING The arrival of cooler weather in September signals the perfect time to tackle renovating thin lawns. Cool weather is optimum for growth of cool season grasses. The lower temperatures slows drying of seeded areas, leading to better germination. We always recommend doing any seeding and renovation of lawns in the fall for two main reasons. One, the newly formed turf gets two growing seasons (fall and spring) to develop roots before a hot dry summer affects it. Secondly, in the spring we are using preemergent weed controls to try and control crabgrass which does not allow us to seed as effectively.

CONTROL WHAT BITES YOU If you are concerned about Lyme disease and the presence of deer ticks in your yard, our arborists can prescribe a treatment to provide an immediate reduction in the number of ticks in your landscape. The tranisition area between lawn areas and wooded areas is the preferred habitat of the deer tick. According to published research, approximately 90% of deer ticks on a property will be found in the these areas with less than 2% found in lawn areas. Ticks can also be carried into your landscape by animals such as deer and small rodents. Integrated tick control treatments that concentrate on the lawn perimeter areas provide the greatest protection by quickly reducing the number of active ticks in your yard. If we don't already treat your property to help control this nuisance pest contact a Greenwood arborist now to set up a program best suited for your property. Don't wait until the spring to start working on your lawn or controlling ticks. Fall is the best time for these services and is also an excellent time for many outdoor projects for some of the same reasons. Call our arborist to have an evaluation of your property before winter settles in.

WET Season Equals Fungus Problems The prolonged rainy Spring we are experiencing has caused many fungal diseases on various trees and turf. While disease can affect various parts of trees, the most obvious symptoms occur when leaves are affected. Some diseases are more prevalent among certain trees such as crabapples, fruit trees, dogwoods, ashes, and sycamores. Deep root feeding is strongly recommended for severely affected trees.
